Archiv Tv Public Spain TVE (Aplauso - ) Estudio 1, Prado del Rey, Madrid (Spain). /Low Quality. British rock band, pop Rock, New Wave, Power Pop, formed in 1977 London, United Kingdom. Driver’s Seat was a bestseller in many countries in 1978 (on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States it was number 15). In the United Kingdom it was not a success due to a technical problem with the EMI printing plant, which made the single unavailable after the group’s appearance on the television program (Top of the Pops) and remained on the threshold of the list of the top 40 of the UK Singles Chart.1 The founder, leader of the group and only constant member of the group is its singer and songwriter, Paul Roberts. He is also a painter, and all the group’s covers are due to him. According to Paul Roberts, “Driver’s Seat“ isn’t about driving, but rather “fragmented, conflicting thoughts and emotions that might follow the break-up of a relationship“. One of the key decisions in arranging the song was to start with drums and progressively introduce other instruments.
