๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Everyday problems: name, describe, fix them!

๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ How do we speak about things that go wrong? These are normal everyday problems that have to be fixed. ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ”ง ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ”ง ๐Ÿ‘‰ What do you say if your washing machine isnโ€™t working? You say, the washing machine has broken down, I canโ€™t do the laundry. ๐Ÿ‘‰ You have a problem with a pipe. Water is coming out. That means the pipe is leaking. You say: this pipe is leaking, I need to call a plumber. ๐Ÿ‘‰ The door handleโ€™s come off. I need to fix it. Also buttons on your jacket can come off. ๐Ÿ‘‰ You enter your bathroom and the floor is full of water. You say: The bathroom is flooded, get the mop and bucket. You collect the water from the floor with a mop and bucket. ๐Ÿชฃ ๐Ÿ‘‰ What if you need your flashlight ๐Ÿ”ฆ , but itโ€™s not working? Probably, the batteries have run out. But you can also say the batteries are dead. You can either charge the battery or get some more in the supermarket. ๐Ÿ‘‰ You can spill coffee โ˜•๏ธ , tea, juice ๐Ÿงƒ or water on something. Iโ€™ve spilled some orange juice on my T-shirt. I hope it doesnโ€™t stain. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Are you familiar with the problem when the sink in your kitchen or bathroom gets full of water that wonโ€™t drain away? The problem is that the sink, or the drain, is blocked. ๐Ÿ‘‰ A vase, a cup, a glass ๐Ÿฅƒ , or a plate can get cracked. Here you can say, itโ€™s cracked or chipped. ๐Ÿ‘‰ If you closed the door, but had left the key ๐Ÿ”‘ home, it means that you locked yourself out. I have locked myself out, I need to call my roommate, or get the locksmith. ๐Ÿ‘‰ What can you say about the clock ๐Ÿ•ฐ in your kitchen that is not working properly? You can say that itโ€™s slow, fast or has stopped. You have to wind it up or change the batteries. ๐Ÿ‘‰ If you put your glasses, keys ๐Ÿ”‘ , or papers somewhere and canโ€™t find them, you have mislaid = you have misplaced (AmE) them. ๐Ÿ‘‰ You hit someone while driving your car ๐Ÿš— ? If you bent the metal a little, you call it โ€žto dentโ€œ. ๐Ÿ‘‰ What if you want to start driving but your car ๐Ÿš™ doesnโ€™t? In this case you say, the car wonโ€™t start. The battery is probably flat (dead- AmE). ๐Ÿ‘‰ You can twist your ankle ๐Ÿฆถ coming down the stairs or doing sports. Iโ€™ve twisted my ankle and now it hurts. ๐Ÿ‘‰ You can cut your finger while chopping a cucumber ๐Ÿฅ’ . You might need a band-aid. ๐Ÿฉน ๐Ÿ‘‰ You can also bump or bang your knee, your foot ๐Ÿฆถ , your head etc. on something and get a bruise. ๐Ÿ‘‰ If you fall down and get red broken skin but thereโ€™s no blood, you use the verb โ€žto grazeโ€œor โ€œto scrapeโ€.
