Yesterday, I took part in a truly historic event. Alongside Sergey Chemezov, Head of Rostec State Corporation, Gennady Krasnikov, President of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Alexei Sambuevich Tsydenov, Head of the Republic of Buryatia, we laid the foundation stone for a large solar telescope-coronograph. This marks one of the stages in the creation of the National Heliogeophysical Complex. The telescope will be constructed by the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with a Rostec company. Academician RAS Geliy Aleksandrovich Zherebtsov stated that the telescope is truly unique. It will enable the study of the Sun’s photosphere, which is inaccessible to telescopes of smaller diameter and orbital observatories. This telescope will provide valuable data for studying the causes of solar flares and other phenomena. Researching the Sun is of utmost importance, as its radiation affects not only spacecraft but also electronics on Earth’s surface, including ours. I want to remind you that the project of the National Heliogeophysical Complex of the Russian Academy of Sciences includes several other objects. Within our region, these objects consist of a lidar and a radar complex on the coast of the Small Sea, a heating stand near Angarsk, and a data processing center in Irkutsk.
