Beginning with its introductory guitar riff, the driving drum beat, and orchestral background, the song surges with energy and depth. Recorded on August 3 and 4, 1967 and released as single on September 22 on Parlophone in the UK and Epic in the US, “King Midas in Reverse“ only made #18 in the UK charts and #51 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was considered a commercial failure, ultimately contributing to Graham Nash’s decision to leave the group.
