Is CAIR on the Ropes? with Dexter Van Zile

The Biden White House recently declared pro-Hamas comments by the leader of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), Nihad Awad, “shocking” and “antisemitic.” It also canceled CAIR’s participation in a campaign to combat antisemitism. What is CAIR’s place in American Muslim institutional life? Did Awad’s remarks differ from his usual message? Is this a turning point for CAIR? Dexter Van Zile is managing editor of MEF’s Focus on Western Islamism. He previously worked at the Committee for Accuracy in Middle East Reporting and Analysis (CAMERA), where he focused on efforts to delegitimize Israel. His writings have appeared in many publications, including the Boston Globe, American Spectator and Jerusalem Post. Mr. Van Zile has a BA from the University of Puget Sound and an MA from Western Washington University.
