Classic TV Theme: Bewitched

’Bewitched’ (1964) opened with animation by Hanna-Barbera and a catchy tune from Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller. With only minor changes these continued through the show’s eight-year run. Inspired by films like ’Bell, Book, and Candle’ (where James Stewart is enamored of witch Kim Novak) the show catapulted Elizabeth Montgomery to tv stardom. Dick York was the long-suffering but loving husband, until health concerns caused him to be replaced by Dick Sargent (aka ’The New Darrin’). Viewers had trouble with the switch and after struggling for a few seasons the series wrapped. Enjoy three incarnations of the show’s open and credits: the black-and-white original, the switch to color, and The New Darrin.
