The Night Before */ The Beatles ’ Full Instrumental

Taking a trip back to 1965... This might be the best rocker the Beatles ever recorded. It’s certainly in the conversation. There’s just so much to love here. Given my penchant for accuracy, my apologies for not recording this at Stonehenge! In no particular order... First, John was clearly a secret try-hard on piano. I found isolated tracks on YouTube of John’s playing on the Hohner Pianet, and man. John’s part is incredibly inventive and surprisingly complex! Like Paul’s bass playing, no verse is exactly the same. His syncopations, his aggressive, slightly-ahead-of-the-beat timing, and his chord choices were just stunning. He revealed later piano talent on songs like “Imagine,“ “Oh My Love,“ and, much later, “Real Love,“ but he clearly had a ton of talent by 1965.
