Fábio Fernandes | Isaac Albéniz - Sevilla

Fábio Fernandes performs Isaac Albéniz - Sevilla (Sevillanas) Sevilla is the 3rd movement of Isaac Albéniz’s Suite Española No.1, Op. 47, originally written for solo piano in the early 1880’s. Albéniz is a Spanish Post-Romantic composer that explored deeply the Spanish folk music idiom. This suite is a perfect example of his nationalistic influences as each movement refers to a different region and to its traditional dance. Sevilla has as base the Sevillana dance, a lively dance in 3/4, and in the middle section we can hear resemblances to cante jondo (flamenco). Albéniz never wrote for guitar but often used its idioms into piano writing, this lead his music to be widely arranged for guitar, being even, sometimes, better known on this version than on its original. In this video I am playing an arrangement made by Manuel Barrueco with a few alterations of my own.
