Once again, this is a track inspired by the gloomy story of “Faith“, and indie game trilogy focused on retro aesthetic and things that go bump in the night. “Hell Has an Elevator“ takes inspiration from the third chapter, towards the end of renegade priest John’s plight against unknowable demons and possessed horrors. Relying on only faith and a small golden crucifix, he begins to doubt his purpose and if he’ll even live to see the morning...
A huge thanks to @ for the incredible music video, and to @AirdorfGames for creating Faith’s dark immersive tale.
Lyrics:
Got a promise to keep now of my own
Gonna walk through the fire and come back home
Treading through the damnation of our kind
’Cause heaven’s got a locked door I can’t find
I can’t preach to the darkness
Without putting up a fight
And I don’t expect a savior
So I’ve got to be the light
I can’t climb jacob’s ladder
Keep on landing on the ground
But hell has an elevator
So just send my body down
Thinking back to the bloodshed on my trail
The damage
Tried to stick to the scripture, but I have failed
Abandoned
Breaking bread with the sinners to survive
Altogether
’Cause heaven’s got a locked door I can’t find
Shut forever
I can’t preach to the darkness
Without putting up a fight
And I don’t expect a savior
So I’ve got to be the light
I can’t climb jacob’s ladder
Keep on landing on the ground
But hell has an elevator
So just send my body down
Gonna choke on the sulfur I taste on my lips
Seeing stars in the dark here beneath an eclipse
Hard to wait for an answer when my belief slips
There’s something else here listening
For the path I have walked comes a dangerous price
I have searched for the truth with my own doubting eyes
Can I live with the knowing when I realize
Lucifer’s star is twinkling
My mind is scouring secrets
Not any soul will tell
Sometimes to face the demons
You have to walk through hell
I can’t preach to the darkness
Without putting up a fight
And I don’t expect a savior
So I’ve got to be the light
I can’t climb jacob’s ladder
Keep on landing on the ground
But hell has an elevator
So just send my body down
Down, down, down
