The Story of Savatage (1978-2012)

A biographical account of the band Savatage, containing the band’s music, videos, interviews and live footage that takes you through the band’s history. Savatage was formed in 1978 by Jon & Criss Oliva, joined by Steve Wacholz. The band released two albums independently on Par Records and then signed to Atlantic to release their third album, “Power of the Night.“ Despite solid material, the album didn’t fare well commercially and due to management problems, the band’s fourth effort, “Fight for the Rock“ also became a failure. Savatage finally found success with their fifth album “Hall of the Mountain King“ and continued this wave of success, peaking in 1989 with “Gutter Ballet“ and continuing into 1991 with “Streets: A Rock Opera.“ In 1992, Jon Oliva stepped down as singer of the band, and was replaced by Zak Stevens.
