The Swinging Blue Jeans followed other MerseyBeat bands to the “Star Club“ in Hamburg and was booed off stage as their jazzy skiffle style was considered out of date by the audiences. It was at this time that the band morphed from Jazz into Rock ’n’ Roll and worked. Out went the banjo and the double bass and in came the electric bass guitar and two electric guitars. They returned to Hamburg with this line up: • Ray Ennis - Vocals and Rhythm Guitar • Ralph Ellis - Vocals and Lead Guitar • Les Braid - Bass Guitar and Vocals • Norman Kuhlke - Drums and Vocals. This time around they were loved by the audiences and went on to become one of the top five most successful Liverpool bands of their time.
