The “NVA of the GDR“ was a series of educational military films released by the Army Film Studio of the NVA. This is episode 10 of the series, released in 1980. The film showcases a variety of scenes such as units of the National People’s Army (NVA) conducting live military exercises, scenes of daily civilian life, urban and economic development in the cities of Trollenhagen, Namensgebern, Rostock, Cottbus, and Neubrandenburg. Scenes of cultural events carried out in conjunction with the National People’s Army and Youth Organizations such as the FDJ. Sailors of the People’s Navy (Volksmarine) carrying out routine tasks onboard their ships. Scenes of the NVA and the Soviet Army working together in joint exercises, partaking in wreath laying ceremonies and other activities. East German pilots preparing to take off in their fighter jets.
