Sort of makes me think of what Pink Floyd might have sounded like if they leaned into the space rock genre and were more active in the 80’s. Their other albums are all worth checking out especially the mid 70’s, their first 1971 album is a bit raw but the next 2 Inside (’73) and Floating (’74) are both great with more of a heavy krautrock sound. Their 4th album Power And The Passion (’75) starts to get more symphonic and the next 2 Dawn (’76) and Ocean (’77) are both masterpieces. Silent Cries And Mighty Echoes (’79) is their last classic album before the 80’s but you can hear some of the shift in their sound leading up to Colors. After these 3 albums are Performance (’83) and Metromania (’84) which are much heavier on the 80’s sounds/production but still full of great synth & guitar, Metromania especially has a lot of metal influence in the guitar as Frank Bornemann did some producing for German metal bands in the 80’s. Ra (’88) is a weird concept album as it was made after the band split up and their leader Frank Borneman teamed up with Michael Gerlach to record it as a duo, it’s also peak 80’s cheesiness though it has some good parts. Destination (’92) features a reformed band and is a bit of a return to their classic sound though still with 90’s influence. The Tides Return Forever (’94) is also a bit more classic while heavy on some 90’s cheesiness. Oceans 2 (’98) is a sequel to the ’77 album and is probably the most “classic“ of their later albums. After a 20 year break they released Visionary in 2009 which has a great mix of old/modern prog sounds. Lastly Eloy released a trilogy with The Vision, The Sword And The Pyre - Part I and part II in 2017 and 2019 which are a 2 part rock opera about Joan d’Arc followed by a recent 2023 album Echoes From The Past which is more of a return to their roots and an all around great album.
