Vintage Paul Jackson from the Secrets album (1976). Is this one of the funkiest basslines ever written? Here’s my transcription.
With James Levi (drums), Bennie Maupin (sax), Kenneth Nash (perc), Wah Wah Watson (gtr), Ray Parker Jr. (gtr)
EDIT: 18 March 2021
Today we heard the sad news of the passing of the geat Paul Jackson. Born in Oakland California on 28 March 1947 he, together with drummer Mike Clark, was one of the pioneers of the ’Oakland Funk’ sound exemplified by the likes of Head Hunters and Tower of Power. For me PJ was the absolute embodiment of funk bass. There was no one funkier! My condolences to his family and loved ones.
. Paul. God did indeed make you funky!
The bass: Fender Precision, 1970
