Global Repercussions Of Israel Hamas War As Hate Spills Over

U.S President Joe Biden has issued a strong warning to Israel and its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discouraging the occupation of Gaza. In an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes” that aired on Sunday, October 15th, 2023, Biden said it would be a “big mistake“ for Israel to occupy Gaza. Israel has been signalling its preparation for a ground invasion of Gaza even as a humanitarian catastrophe worsens inside the coastal Palestinian enclave. Biden explained to interviewer Scott Pelley that a Gaza occupation was a big mistake because Hamas and its extreme elements do not represent all the Palestine people. He also opined that while Hamas needs to be eliminated, there needs to be a path to a Palestinian state, something that is unlikely to happen with Israeli occupation. Biden’s comments highlight one of the few times he has called on Israel to exercise restraint in responding to the Hamas attacks that left 1,400 dead. In response to these attacks, Israel unleashed a massive bombing campaign against the northern Gaza Strip, from which Hamas launched its attack. Israel has also signalled that it is preparing for a ground invasion of Gaza, even as a humanitarian crisis grows inside the coastal Palestinian enclave. The Middle Eastern powerhouse has called up over 300,000 reservists to bolster its army, has assembled dozens of tanks, armoured vehicles and other artillery outside Gaza, and even asked the UN to relocate 50% of Gaza’s population so they don’t get caught up in the battle against Hamas.
