Honey bee colony creates ’Mexican wave’ to ward off intruders

Giant honey bees, native to south Asia, use a technique called ’shimmering’ to ward off potential intruders. They raise their abdomens in the air and shake them, creating a ripple effect across an open hive that looks like a Mexican wave. If a hornet or wasp - major predators of bees - manages to penetrate the defence, the bees will use a different technique to cook the intruder alive. Original Article:
