One of the heaviest rainstorms in the past 100 years hit the capital of South Korea, Seoul. Alarm sirens are heard everywhere in the city. According to the Korea Herald, Seoul received 113.5 mm ( inches) of rain per hour. And in the Tonjak region in the south of the capital, 148 mm ( inches) of rain fell in 1 hour. Other southern districts of the capital were also heavily affected, in particular the districts of Gangnam and Gwanak, where the Dorimcheon River overflowed its banks. Residents of these areas were forced to evacuate due to flooding. Several underground railway stations were closed.
At least eight people have died and six people are missing in the Seoul area.
Heavy rain has caused power outages in parts of Seoul, according to local media reports. Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol called an emergency meeting at the National Disaster Control and Security
