We first met Bassouri Seck and his wife, Khodia, in October 2018. Like many other families in Kaffrine, Senegal, they struggled to grow crops on their land. With no trees to protect it from the sun or the wind, the soil was drying out.
Thanks to the support of the Ecosia community, we partnered with Trees for the Future to assist families like the Secks in creating forest gardens. In these gardens, trees grow alongside the crops, creating a protective microclimate, providing shade and moisture in the dry season, and protecting the crops from the wind and animals.
Now, climate change and water scarcity remain an ongoing challenge for families like the Secks. But stories like theirs show that with collective effort and resources, we can have a positive impact.
