From Matt Hancock as Bond to re-forming One Direction: Oddest government petitions
Among the thousands of petitions submitted by British citizens and UK residents to parliament, some weird and wonderful ones haven’t made the cut.
Those that are approved receive a response from the government once they receive 10,000 signatures.
At 100,000 signatures, a petition will be considered for a debate in Parliament.
Many petitions are rejected because it’s a matter the government is not directly responsible for, there’s already a petition on the same issue, or it doesn’t ask for a clear action.
Here, The Independent takes a look at the wildest subjects Parliament will not be debating - from making Matt Hancock the new James Bond to re-forming One Direction.
