How NOT to extract the 21700 cells from a Tesla Model 3 battery

In this video I go against my own advice and tear apart a Tesla Model 3 battery to get the cells. It is a great design for the Model 3 but it doesn’t work well for most other vehicles due to it’s size. All of the 4 modules that make up a Model 3 pack are each being taller and heavier then me! This makes them pretty hard to use for most DIY EV. IMHO: the Tesla Model 3 batteries are the least repairable of any EV. Those thousands of cells are glued together 3 different ways to make one giant brick of high voltage fun! In this video we tear apart one of those ~240 lb (110kg) battery packs to get out individual cells and see how the pack is constructed. It’s a design optimized for production which unfortunately makes it one of the worst to reuse into a DIY EV.
