Tina Guo (feat. Voodoo KungFu) - THE WATER PHOENIX (Official Music Video)

This passion project is my imagination of what Prehistoric music in the East Asian region sounded like 1.7 million years ago- during the time of the Yuanmou Man, the oldest human fossil found in Yunnan Province and a member of the Homo erectus classification before there were modern-day humans and countries. My genetic background is predominantly from the Han Tribe in China. I’m 94% Chinese, 3% Korean, 2% Mongolian, and 1% Northern Indian/Pakistani. “Chinese“ is not an ethnicity but a modern-day region/country- the people of China comprise 56 ethnic groups/tribes. 92% of today’s Chinese are descendants of the Han people but this music pre-dates and transcends these tribes further into our shared ancestral DNA with all humankind. This song was Co-written and Produced with my dear friend Steve Mazzaro, and features another incredibly talented friend, the amazing Nan Li (AKA @voodookungfu ) on vocals. • What is the Water Phoenix? • The Water Phoenix is both my “character“ and the name of my new Tribal project. The first single I just released is self-titled as well. The Phoenix in ancient China, called Fenghuang, originally consisted of a separate male feng and a female huang as symbols of yin and yang. The male feng represented the yang aspect while the huang represented the yin aspect; together, the feng and huang image symbolized love between husband and wife. From the Qin dynasty, the Fenghuang progressively underwent feminization as the dragon became a symbol of masculinity. Eventually, the feng and the huang merged into a single female entity. The body of the Chinese Phoenix symbolizes the celestial bodies: the head is the sky, the eyes are the sun, the back is the moon, the wings are the wind, the feet are the earth, and the tail is the planets. The fenghuang is said to have originated in the sun, and its body contains the five fundamental colors: black, white, red, yellow, and green. It sometimes carries scrolls or a box with sacred books and is sometimes depicted with a fireball. In my mind, I saw a magnificent, giant golden bird with flames rising from its body and wings. She explodes forward violently through monstrous waves in a deep black sea, which is the inspiration behind the name. Li Bai (701-762) The lyrics are from an ancient Chinese Poem by Li Bai (701-762) - the meaning behind it is to break through mental and physical chains holding us back, and soar into the sky to our freedom.
