Castles In The Air (1952)

Designers put finishing touches to a castle set at Elstree Studios, London. M/S’s of designer throwing leaves onto the wooden floor whilst another attaches hinges onto a floorboard so that when stepped on it flies up into the air. He demonstrates how it works. Man dabs windows with cloth. M/S of man placing fake ivy over windows and then smashing a glass pane with hammer. L/S and M/S of Syd Simmonds hammering studs into a large wooden door. Several shots of man making cobwebs around the set by using a machine which throws out a rubber solution using centrifugal force. He blows dust of the cobwebs to make them look more realistic. His finishing touch is to cut holes in the webbing using scissors. Cataloguer’s note: The film set being created was for ’Castles in the Air’ which starred David Tomlinson and Barbara Kelly.
