Together with flight mechanic Nikita Kiryanov, he was on board the Mi-8 helicopter hijacked by Kuzminov to Ukraine. Both soldiers did not know about his plans, did not want to surrender and were killed. Kuzminov admitted that he received $500 thousand (48.7 million rubles) for treason.
