This is a rundown of every hit song present on the MuchMusic Countdown in 2008. Let’s bring some Canadiana to nostalgia playlists! These have been my pet projects for a while because I’m a bit obsessed with old-school MuchMusic/can-con in general. In many ways 2008 sets the tone for the music of the early 2010s. Lady Gaga and Katy Perry burst onto the pop charts. Lil Wayne, T-Pain and Flo Rida dominate hip hop. We start feeling some EDM influence on pop. Disney Channel starts churning out teen pop stars, beginning with Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers. Back in Canada, we get an interesting blend of hardcore, indie rock and pop punk in the rock world. In Canadian pop, Lights and Danny Fernandes have their first hits.
