Disastrous Disruptions | Airlines, banks and media hit by global IT outage
Airlines, banks, telecommunications companies and broadcasters around the world are reporting problems due to what is thought to be a major IT outage, affecting Microsoft Windows PCs globally, after an update for a security product provided by the firm Crowdstrike. Flights have been grounded in airports across the world, businesses have been forced to temporarily shut down, and some broadcasters are off the air. Several 911 emergency lines are also reported to be down in some US states.
Microsoft have said they are taking ‘mitigation action’ to try and combat the outage, as reports of disruption continue to flood in.
