Ce Soir mon Coeur est lourd ... Rose Avril (1947)

Ever since finding her recording of “Tes Mensonges” (Your Lies) on a fleamarket many years ago I have had a weak spot for the very pretty Rose Avril (1920-1973). She started her career after winning an amateur singing comptetition at only sixteen. Her career was to last for two decades until 1958. Rose Avril recorded mainly for Pathé and among her best known recordings are “Mon Ange, “Le premier Rendez-Vous”, and “Tes Mensonges”, “La Morena”, “Querida” or “Danse avec moi”.... She also recorded some of Zarah Leander’s songs in French. This Video features a 1947 recording of “Ce Soir mon Coeur est lourd” (Lit. Tonight my Heart is heavy) - a song which is just as dramatic as its title. Thankfully this record is a later pressing and has never been played on a gramophone resulting in undamaged grooves and thus an intact treble. The original catalogue number was PA 2440.
