HD Soviet October Revolution Parade, 1986 Part I Парад 7 Ноября
This is the parade on Moscow’s Red Square devoted to the 69th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution, 7 November 1986. This year would be a trying one for the USSR as the Chernobyl disaster (the worse nuclear power plant disaster in history) occurred back on 26 April. The effects of which the world is still dealing with today. Also during that year Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev would begin laying out his reform plans for the country that would later be called “Perestroika“, or “Restructuring“. Also occuring this year was the launch of the Mir space station’s core module (the station would continue to live on after the fall of the USSR, remaining in service until 2001). Taking the salute is First Minister of Defense, General of the Army Petr Lushev. Commanding the parade is commander of the Moscow Military District, Colonel General Vladimir Arkhipov. Music performed by the Combined Orchestra of the Moscow Garrison conducted by Major General Nikolai Mikhailov. Part I
