Social Democratic Party (SPD)’s Olaf Scholz delivers a statement in Berlin on Monday, September 27. On Sunday, tens of millions of Germans cast their ballots to determine the country’s next government, which will eventually decide who will succeed Angela Merkel as she steps down after 16 years as German chancellor. According to preliminary results, the Social Democratic Party (SPD) garnered 25,7 percent of the votes, winning the most seats in the Bundestag, with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) following with 24,1 percent, Alliance 90/The Greens 14,8 percent and the Free Democratic Party (FDP) 11,5 percent of the votes.
