Today we offer you to listen to a small piece for solo cello Nach dem Weinen by the Georgian composer Giya Kancheli performed by Olga Kalinova. Nach dem Weinen (“Having wept“) was created for Mstislav Rostropovich in 1994 while working on another, larger composition for a cellist. Kancheli describes it as a fleeting request after one of the concerts. In 1993, the composer was already living in Germany, and at that time there were fierce armed conflicts in his homeland related to the struggle for the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. “Then in Berlin,“ Rostropovich writes – “we agreed that he would pour out all his sadness, all his pain in music.
