Johnnie & Jack - Honey, I Need You

Johnnie and Jack and the Tennessee Mountain Boys were once a mighty force on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. Today not many people remember these two men, who were great singers, songwriters and entertainers. Johnnie Wright was and is still married to the queen of country music, Kitty Wells. Jack Anglin was Johnnie’s brother in law and a great tenor singer to Johnnie’s lead or melody lines. Sadly, Jack Anglin was killed in an automobile accident in 1963, enroute to one of the funerals of Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins and Cowboy Copas. In this video, their 1954 release of “Honey, I Need You“, or also known as “Honey Baby, I Need Your Love So Bad“ is featured. Johnnie and Jack are joined by famed Jordanaire bass singer Culley Holt (in blue jacket). Jack Anglin is playing guitar and singing melody on the verses and tenor on the chorus. Johnnie sings lead on the chorus and is up to his usual antics the rest of the time. Two Tennessee Mountain Boys from this era make their appearances as well. Benny Martin on the fiddle and Shot Jackson on the dobro guitar. Great music from an era that will never return.
