Maine Removes Trump from Ballot - LIVE Breaking News Coverage

Maine has ordered Donald Trump removed from the primary election ballot, saying he violated the Constitution by engaging in insurrection. The Maine ruling is expected to be appealed and eventually settled by the Supreme Court. Get the latest on Maine disqualifying Trump from the ballot in our LIVE breaking news coverage. Maine is the second state order Trump removed from the ballot (Colorado was the first). The Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows (the top Maine election official) said in a ruling that Trump engaged in insurrection against the United States and therefore is disqualified from the office of president under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution. Since he cannot serve as president, he must be removed from the primary election ballot, the ruling says. (The ruling also means that Trump cannot appear on the general election ballot in Maine.) Trump is expected to appeal the Maine ruling, and the legality of Colorado’s and Maine’s removals of Trump for the ballot are ultimately expected to be decided on by the US Supreme Court.
