Origins of the Olmecs | Exploring San Lorenzo | Olmec Capital of Ancient Mexico | Megalithomania
San Lorenzo Tenochtitlán is the first major Olmec site in Mexico founded just after 1800 BC and peaking between 1400 BC and 1200 BC. It has been excavated at various times with ten colossal Olmec heads discovered in this huge artificial platform city, one weighing 28 tons. In the 1990s another head was discovered that is now on display at the local museum with other unusual artifacts, some of them with magnetic qualities and intricate carving similar to Gobekli Tepe and Tiwanaku. There is even a stone sphere and platform, like those found in Costa Rica. Hugh Newman and the Megalithomania group also get special permission to explore the rarely visited site that is now mostly destroyed with only evidence of mounded structures there. Includes exclusive aerial footage.
