A third of people from ethnic and religious minorities in Britain have experienced some form of racist assault. That’s according to research published by experts from three UK universities last year. As for the cause, renowned rapper and activist Akala lays out its historical origins and blames colonial elites. He was responding to English far-right activist Tommy Robinson during a public debate. Akala also gives a powerful example of how racism manifests itself in society. Christopher Alder was a former Black British paratrooper killed in UK police custody in 1999. Footage later revealed British police officers laughing and making monkey noises over his dead body. To add insult to injury, authorities then gave Christopher’s family the wrong body to bury and only told them about it more than a decade later.
