Visit Visit our website This short, silent film shows scenes from the Woodstock Music and Art Fair, the famed music festival held August 15-18, 1969. This footage was shot by a local New York TV station both at the time of the event, and probably a year afterwards, once the muddy fields of Max Yasgur’s dairy farm had recovered. The end of the piece features a reporter speaking on camera (silent here unfortunately), likely mentioning that the area is now peaceful, quiet, and free of hippies. Some of the wonderful scenes in this footage -- which is different from that shown in the famed Woodstock movie -- include hippies dancing en masse in the rain, people bathing in a lake or pond (:20), a man with a Zappa-esque mustache sleeping on the ground (:22) surrounded by thousands of others. A performer appears at (:38). At :39, more audience members are shown. At :41, two people make out. At :56, the completely trashed field where the concert was held is shown.
