New Year’s 2020: Sydney puts on famous fireworks display | FULL
More than a million people gathered around a hazy Sydney harbour on Tuesday to watch Australia’s famous New Year’s fireworks despite the ongoing wildfire crisis ravaging New South Wales, Australia’s most populous state.
The fireworks were launched from seven barges around the harbour, as well as the iconic Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge.
Some communities have cancelled New Year’s fireworks celebrations, but Sydney Harbour’s popular display was granted an exemption to a total fireworks ban that is in place there and elsewhere to prevent new wildfires.
City of Sydney Mayor Clover Moore said planning for the fireworks began 15 months ago and most of the budget had already been allocated.
What did you think of the show?
