Arnold Mindell: Author, Teacher, Psychologist, Dreamer: A Portrait (Full Film)

This lively, intimate, and informal interview with Arny Mindell was filmed in December 2021. It is a broad discussion of his life and work creating “Process-oriented Psychology”. Arny’s interview with Cathy Bernatt was filmed by Jerry Grant with love and support from Amy Mindell. He shares his earliest childhood dream, what sourced the development of the Dreambody, his deep love of nature, and what drew him to study both physics and psychology. 0:47:29 PART 2: BREATHING JUNG IN AND ON: THE EVOLUTION OF PROCESS-ORIENTED PSYCHOLOGY & PROCESSWORK In Part 2, Arny dives deeper into his love of psychology and the life-long influence that Jung had on him. We learn about Arny’s development as an empirical researcher and scientist. Arny shares how he came to develop the Dreambody . We learn about the move from Switzerland and the start of the Process Work center in Oregon, and Arny begins to describe the development of Worldwork (small and large group work) and breathing Jung On. 1:28:24 PART 3: THE WORLD IS MY FAMILY In Part 3, we learn about Arny’s life as a physicist, some of the fascinating projects he got to work on, and his ultimate decision to follow his dreaming to study Jungian analysis and eventually develop Process-oriented Psychology (Processwork). Arny shares about his special relationships with two of his Jungian analysts: Franz Riklin (Psychiatrist and President of the Jung Institute in Switzerland and nephew of Carl Jung) and Marie-Louise von Franz (Jungian Swiss psychologist known for her psychological interpretations of fairy tales and work with dreams). We meet Cleopatra, Arny’s dog, discover how she helped advance Worldwork through Arny’s one-on-one work with World leaders, and how she saved his life one day. Arny speaks about the evolution of Worldwork and shares a few profound moments in Worldwork seminars around the world. Amy joins and shares aspects of Arny never shared before. Returning to family, Arny shares touching stories of how his father and his mother each influenced him and his development. 2:15:33 PART 4: FOLLOW THE PROCESS, EVEN BEYOND LIFE AND DEATH In Part 4, the final chapter, Arny provides words of wisdom to World leaders and speaks about the development of deep democracy. Amy joins and we learn about some of the different applications of Processwork that Arny developed (Extreme states, Working with Children, Working with people in Coma States or Near Death). Arny shares his fascination with Taoism and the I-Ching. We discover what being an author means to Arny and what draws him to write. Returning to family, we learn more about the influences that war, fatherhood, and being a grandparent had on Arny, and he ends by speaking personally about aging, dying, and dreaming beyond death.
