I came across a recent video from Israel on AussieCossack. It brought to mind in the most vivid way possible the key difference between Palestinian Arab culture and Israeli Jewish secular culture. A common theme in almost all Israeli videos is that of the Israeli Jewish population always being the victim. The Palestinians are the aggressors. They are righteous. The Palestinians are evil. They are the children of light. The Palestinians are vicious animals. They represent civilization. The Palestinians are filth. They are always justified in attacking Palestinians. Palestinians are never justified in protecting themselves. An Israeli Jewish life is priceless beyond worth. A Palestinian life is worse than worthless. It is harmful to the continued existence of the Jewish state.
The common theme of videos originating among Palestinian Arabs, on the other hand, is completely different. When Israeli Jewish people are mentioned, the mention is almost always incidental and hardly ever central. Israeli Jews are referred to as illegal occupants of land that they have stolen by force, as settlers on unpurchased land, as terrorists. Never once do they call Israeli Jews victims or themselves aggressors. They see themselves as being called upon to protects themselves, their families, their land by a just and righteous God and their videos call out to God, proclaim his greatness and ask his mercy constantly. And, in doing the will of God, if a Palestinian Arab is killed in the course of conflict, the person’s family is both congratulated and consoled. Congratulated because death in cause of protecting one’s family, one’s people, is seen as proof that the dead person is not dead, but is a martyr now in the presence of God and the holy ones of the heavenly host. Consoled because of the pain such a sudden separation causes. No time is spent blaming Israeli Jews for the death, because, over the long term, there is an unwavering belief that God is almighty and that God will judge those who have done evil to them and that the judgment meted out will be a just one. Please look at the link I am including here to an announcement made of the death of a Hezbollah soldier. For further reference, look at a link where Hamas announces the death of yet another two small Arab Gazan children.
Now for one last link to highlight the contrast. It is instructive to look at a statement purported to be by Israeli Jewish medical doctors who apparently seem to have forgotten that the existence of the Hippocratic Oath in most of the rest of the world and who are demanding the destruction of Gazan hospitals.
It would seem that the Israeli Jewish state is primarily based on the concept of perpetual professional victimhood, that one holocaust justifies another holocaust. The Palestinian Arabs, on the other hand, never frame their demands in terms of victimhood. They often become martyrs, but never victims. In the end, it seems to me that the balance of moral justice is on the Palestinian side and that, over the long term, they will indeed win. Even so, I do not see a second holocaust upon their winning. As they frame their rhetoric, theirs is a battle for justice in the name of the greater glory of God. Once they have won, I can not see a people possessing these beliefs indulging in mass murder. This, in my eyes, is a figment of the imagination of people who spend their whole lives justifying their existence by being professional victims. I cannot help but believe that God will be with those who are not afraid of martyrdom and not with those who always proclaim themselves to be victims.
