Technic hub (AA) vs. Powered Up hub (AAA) in the LEGO Technic 42109 Top Gear Rally Car

The LEGO Technic 42109 Top Gear Rally Car comes with the big 4 port Technic hub, but it only has 2 motors so only 2 ports are used. Was it really necessary to use this heavy hub with 2 unused ports or LEGO could have used the smaller, lighter and cheaper 2-port version from the Batmobile and the City trains?
