The Seekers - I’ll Never Find Another You (1964) 4K

The Seekers performing “I’ll Never Find Another You“, released originally in 1964. It reached #1 in the UK Singles Chart, #1 in Australian Charts, #2 on the US Billboard Easy Listening chart, #2 in Ireland, #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100. “I’ll Never Find Another You“ was the debut single of the Seekers and it was written and produced by Tom Springfield. The song was a massive hit, topping the UK and Australian charts and reaching the top 5 in the US. The Seekers were one of the first Australian acts to gain international stardom, and their music fit the musical zeitgeist in a way that made them genuine youth stars. The Seekers went on to earn several more hits afterward, but their greatest legacy was one of the few songs to miss the American charts entirely, “The Carnival is Over“. The Seekers were a quartet of folk singers from Melbourne, and their music was not quite folk-rock, but with enough freshness and bounce that they didn’t seem hopelessly square. The Seekers could be compared with We Five, another group of pop-friendly folkies fronted by a dynamic female singer. Judith Durham, the lead vocalist of the group, had begun her singing career in jazz. Once work colleague Athol Guy asked her to join his folk band, however, Durham easily shifted into the more commercial genre. As talented as the rest of the Seekers were, it was Durham’s voice that elevated them to stardom.
