China landslide buries 47 people and kills eight in mountainous Yunnan province

A landslide in southern China killed eight people and buried dozens of others underneath rubble on Monday, with rescue operations hampered by snowy sub-zero weather. At least 47 people from 18 households were missing after the disaster in Yunnan province, state-owned China Central Television (CCTV) reported. Eight of those had been found dead by late Monday afternoon local time and rescuers had pulled four others from the rubble. Their condition was not immediately clear.
