Motte and Bailey Castles are one of the most famous types of fortifications found across Medieval England. Most stone castles we see today are derived from an early form of Motte and Baileys, however how easy were these to attack? Following the Norman Conquest of England and William the Conqueror taking the throne of England, the people living inside the kingdom were not happy. They were outraged at the death of the man they believed to be rightfully king, the english Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings.
