Sale & Pelletier (CAN) - 2002 Salt Lake City, Figure Skating, Pairs’ Free Skate
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA - 2002 Winter Games, Figure Skating, Pairs’ Free Skate - Jamie Sale and David Pelletier of Canada skated a perfect program. But because their program has less transitions and was skating slower than Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze, the judges placed them 2nd in the Free Skate in a 5-4 vote, earning them the Silver Medal. However, the audience and the media felt differently, and along with the French judge’s breakdown in front of others that she was forced to give her 1st Place vote to the Russians, sparked the judging controversy that dominated the headlines for days, causing the ISU to consider changing the scoring system.
