The 2019 Tchaikovsky Competition winner, who has gone on to worldwide acclaim and been described as “Liszt reincarnated,“ takes the monumental, Hammerklavier-reminiscent Piano Sonata No. 1 by Brahms (whom Kantorow plays as well as any pianist alive) and Schubert (including a selection of virtuosic Lieder transcriptions by Liszt, plus the tempestuous and virtuosic Wanderer Fantasy, a technical challenge even for the composer himself).
