How to Draw Flowers | Tulip Pencil Drawing

For this demonstration I chose to draw one of the most popular romantic flowers, the Tulip. I first lightly sketch out a circle followed by a double diagonal line for the step and a stretched tear drop shape for the leaf. Then I outline the petals and general shape of the Tulip within the circle guide line. Once I’m happy with the general layout I begin to apply shading with the outside of the pencil. I block in darkest tones, mid tones and lightest tones but I gradually build up the mid and dark tones throughout the drawing process. I finish off by shading in the stem and the leaf.
