Fred Turner, born Charles Frederick Turner on October 16, 1943, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, was a Canadian musician and songwriter best known as the bassist, vocalist, and occasional guitarist for the rock band Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). He played a crucial role in shaping the band’s sound and contributing to their success during the 1970s.
Turner’s musical journey began in the early 1960s when he played in various local bands in Winnipeg. In 1969, he joined the band Brave Belt, which was formed by Randy Bachman, his future BTO bandmate. When Brave Belt evolved into Bachman-Turner Overdrive in 1973, Turner transitioned into his role as the bassist and vocalist for the band.
