Activision launched the first-person shooter video game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, in 2019. Activision and Infinity Ward collaborated on the game’s creation. When released on October 25, 2019, it was the sixteenth Call of Duty game to be released on all three major platforms: Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox 1. Also, it’s the first game in the Modern Warfare reboot series.
The game’s action takes place in a setting that is both realistic and up-to-date. An American CIA agent and British SAS soldiers join up with Urzikstan rebels to combat Russian invaders and Al-Qatal terrorists in the imaginary country of Urzikstan. There is a British setting for the campaign. Cooperative play missions in the Special Ops mode of the game extend the campaign’s storyline. Cross-platform play and progression are now possible in the multiplayer mode, a first for the franchise. New features, such as a Realism mode that removes the HUD and a 64-player version of the Ground War mode, have been added to the game to make it more tactical. A post-launch update featured a free-to-play battle royale mode called Warzone, which was also advertised as a standalone title after the game’s initial release.
As soon as Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was released in 2016, Infinity Ward began work on the game’s follow-up. Using a new engine, the developers were able to create more complex environments and ray-tracing capabilities for the game. The campaign’s design was inspired by conflicts in the actual world, such as the Syrian Civil War and terrorist attacks in London. Seasons were able to give free post-launch content to the playerbase because they did away with the standard season pass and loot boxes for the multiplayer.
While the gameplay and campaign of Modern Warfare 2 garnered a great deal of praise, the multiplayer, graphics, and gloomy, realistic tone attracted considerable criticism. As for the campaign’s subject matter, it garnered some criticism, particularly for its image of the Russian military. Developed by Activision, Modern Warfare II will be launched in 2022 as a sequel to the original game.
