Searching for Gum Slough.

Our base camp was Rainbow Springs State Park. We had heard from a park ranger about a spring on a creek called Gum Slough. She gave us directions, we loaded up our kayaks, and off we went! Unfortunately, because of the drought condition in that part of Florida that May, Gum Slough was way down. We kept getting grounded and hung up on logs and debris. Finally, we had to admit defeat and turn back before getting to the springs. But it was still a great kayaking journey and we saw a lot of birds.
