First time in my life complete speed indicator failure in flight

The speed indicator needle dropped abruptly to below zero while I was in flight. Pitot heat, defrost, cabin heat, and descending to lower altitudes did not help. Canceled my flight and landed at home airport. Surprisingly the landing was one of the smoothest in my life. Just noticed today is the 13th of February. I was going to fly tomorrow but then things changed so I flew today. Update: The pitot tube air lane broke off at the pitot fitting inside the wing, that is what happened.
