Tutorial: how to build a 100W hydro-power-plant from scrap-material only

This is the result of bachelor-theses in mechanical engineering at the ZHAW school of engineering (Winterthur, Switzerland) Autors: Robin Vetterli and Fabian Mohnen The tutorial explanes how you can build a 100W hydro power plant based on the archimedes screw principle. Building time: 80 to 100h Skills: Metal cutting, welding Material: - 200L oil barrel (see details in film) - bycicle (steal frame) - spiral tube (d = 30cm) - car alternator (see details in film) - 2 wheels with funcional bearings - 2.5 m2 of sheet metal or corrugated iron - 10m steel tube for frame How to start: - watch video - find a small river with 50 L/sec flow, a 0.5 m high step and that you are allowed to use for your powerplant - find accoring materials in you nearby scrap-yard - find somebody who has a welder - start building - place the plant 30° to the horizontal into the river (be careful the screw will start immediatly and can harm you - connect the wires
