Henry Kissinger - Israel and Iran

12 Mar 2012 CNN I think, I am very uneasy with so-called intelligence reports that say we don’t know they are working on nuclear weapons. I think we should work from the premise that they are undergoing all this in order to achieve a military capability. Iran is more isolated than it has ever been. So I can see why the Israelis would think that if they strike now Iran will not have a great deal of international support. [They must make concesssions but presumably we would have to do as well?] The proliferating countries will always argue they are under military threat and that they need to protect themselves. We should certainly be prepared to meet those in response the nuclear program is irreversibly ended. [You’re saying if they want to re-enter the international community we should facilitate that?] Yes. Whether they can do this or survive in the world I described that’s another matter. But Iran is an important nation.
